Georgia has 9,687,653 residents making it the ninth most populous state. The state has an area of 59,425 square miles and ranks 24th in size among U.S. states.
Georgia’s 2010 total gross state product was $403.1 billion. It if were to stand alone as a country, it would be the 28th largest economy in the world.
Atlanta is the most populated city and the site of enormous growth in real estate and communication industries. With its vast economy, there are various Georgia housing grants for the residents who need it most.

Georgia Dream Home-Ownership Program
This program makes purchasing a home affordable for low to moderate income individuals in the state of Georgia.
This program offers down payment and closing costs assistance to eligible applicants. Home buyers who meet certain qualifications may qualify for assistance of up to $7,5000. This can be used in conjunction with Georgia Dream First Mortgage Loan to help defray the costs further.
This program also provides free home-buyer education through partnership with different local entities to educate buyers regarding the whole process and responsibilities associated.

Georgia Initiative for Community Housing (GICH)
In 2010, the Department of Community Affairs announced the selection of five Georgia communities namely Auburn, Berrien County, Eatonton, Sylvania, and Washington to participate in the development program that will assist their housing needs. This Georgia housing grants program will last for 3 years.
GICH is a collaborative initiative of the Housing and Demographics Research Center (HDRC), the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA), and the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA). It is funded by U.S. Department of Agriculture – Rural Development, Georgia Power Company, and Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation.
Among the other supporters are Georgia Electric Membership Corporation and University of Georgia Archway Partnership Program.
The program’s goal is to be able to provide affordable housing that will benefit the residents, as well as, economic viability and development of communities.

Housing Authority of Fulton Authority
Georgia housing grants in Fulton County is offered through Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Home-ownership Program. This provides assistance for eligible individuals or families to purchase a home.
There are eligibility requirements to qualify for this Housing Choice Voucher. However, disabled or elderly households are exempted from the employment requirement.
Every applicant should first consult with an HCV case manager for facilitation of the requirements and eligibility. Eligible applicants are then required to attend a mandatory home-ownership orientation.

Georgia Affordable Housing Corporation (GAHC)
This is a non-profit organization established in 1998 that offers Georgia housing grants. This later became a Community Development Financial Institution in 2011.
GAHC is the lending source and technical incubator for financing and promotion of development of affordable housing for low to moderate income individuals in the State of Georgia. They mainly concentrate on small and medium sized multifamily communities.
They provide loans to private and nonprofit developers with the same goal of developing more affordable housing.
