Habitat for Humanity

The concept for Habitat for Humanity was born at Koinonia Farm, which is a small interracial farming community. Founded in 1942, farmer and biblical scholar Clarence Jordan and others wanted to promote racial reconciliation.

The houses would be built at no profit and interest and would not be charged to loans. A revolving fund called “The Fund for Humanity” would finance the building costs.

This is not just a Kentucky housing grant. They are available in different parts of the world to service the needy.

Clarence Jordan believed that what the poor needs is a capital and not charity and what the rich needs is a wise, honorable, and just way of divesting themselves of overabundance.

Habitat for Humanity International transforms lives through provision of safe, decent, and affordable homes.

Habitat’s vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
