Louisiana is the 31st most extensive and 25th most populous of the 50 states in the US. It is the only state with political subdivisions, in which local governments are equivalent to counties.
The population of Louisiana according to the United States Census Bureau was 4,574,836 on July 1, 2011. There was a large decrease in number since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita wiping out whole neighborhoods.
The total gross state product of Louisiana in 2010 is $213.6 billion, which places it as 24th in the nation. Being one of the hurricane hot spots, the government offers several Louisiana housing grants for the residents.

Louisiana Housing Finance Agency (LHFA)
LHFA’s mission is to give every Louisiana resident an opportunity to obtain a safe and affordable housing. This ongoing challenge is faced by a dedicated staff of professionals who allocate federal and state funds for the said mission. This is in accordance with the mission to help low to moderate-income citizens make each and every housing dream a reality.
LHFA tries to continuously build within struggling communities the same social and economic framework currently working in thriving communities.
LHFA has already yielded over 21,026 homes and apartments. This Louisiana housing grant has helped Louisiana recover and look forward to a better future as their communities continue to grow.

Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO)
HANO has committed nearly $1 billion for building spacious mixed-income neighborhoods to transform outdated and damaged housing. Their client service department has also partnered up with social service agencies and resident management to be able to provide extended programs for families in need.
HANO has been the leader for the recovery of the city of New Orleans after the numerous nature disasters. This Louisiana housing grant aims to provide more than 7,000 housing opportunities by the end of this recovery period.
They commit to provide safe, decent, and sanitary housing for the individual residents and families in New Orleans.
HANO’s Home Ownership Program assists qualified public housing and Housing Voucher Program (HCVP) clients to obtain their homes by providing counseling and financial assistance.
The said program is voluntary. It is designed to help individuals and families become economically independent through the support of many local agencies.

East Baton Rouge Parish Housing Authority (EBRPHA)
EBRPHA is an independent, autonomous agency. The Board of Commissioners are appointed by the Baton Rouge City Parish and are to serve without pay for the good of the whole community.
Established in 1941, this Louisiana housing grant has been providing decent and suitable living environment for low-income individuals and families. The Housing Act of 1937 enabled public housing authorities to receive federal assistance for these goals. The aim to finance, develop and manage low-income housing for the residents.
Today, EBRHPA has already served approximately 3,634 families with their said housing programs.
