Minnesota is a US state located in the Midwestern United States. It is the northernmost state apart from Alaska. Minnesota is the 21st most extensive and 21st most populous of the 50 US states. Estimated population by the United States Census Bureau is 5,344,861 in July 2011. Economy in Minnesota has reported a gross domestic product of $262 billion in 2008. As of June 2011, unemployment rate in the state is 6.7%.
The state offers several grants for the benefit of both the residents and the whole community. Several of which are financial assistance grants, Minnesota housing grants, educational grants, and health grants.

Minnesota Housing Finance Agency
Established in 1971, Minnesota housing has invested more than $8.7 billion assisting more than 750,000 households. Minnesota Housing is a leader in the alliance of government, private sectors, and non-profit organizations for the same goal of providing affordable housing to Minnesotans.
Minnesota Housing has been financing affordable homes for low to moderate income individuals and families to enhance their quality of life. They wanted to build stronger communities through doing this.
Minnesota Housing plans on investing more than $658 million over the coming years. This Michigan housing grant hopes to prevent and finally end homelessness throughout the state and mitigate foreclosure of homes.
They have already met 90% of their goal as of December of 2011. That is the goal of having financed 3,585 permanent supportive housing opportunities.

Metropolitan Council Liveable Communities Act Grant Programs (LCA)
LCA grants have not only provided thousands of newly built affordable homes but also living-wage jobs. At the same time, they have added millions of dollars through leveraging in both public and private investments.
This Michigan housing grant program works as cities participate by agreeing to work and provide their share of affordable housing needed. In 2011, there are 94 cities who have participated in the Livable Communities Program.
The Livable Communities Act defines those who are eligible for the grants. All grants are to be awarded on a competitive basis. The Council specifically collaborates with Minnesota Housing, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, and Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development for reviews and recommendations.

Central Minnesota Housing Partnership Inc. (CMHP)
CMHP is a regional non-profit organization incorporated in May 1993. In February 1994, CMHP has been designated as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) by the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency.
This Michigan housing grant organization was created for the goal of increasing and preserving affordable housing stock in the Central Minnesota area. The goals have been achieved through innovative programs and services. This renders availability of affordable housing for low to moderate income individuals and families throughout the state.
CMHP’s service area includes 16 counties in Central Minnesota. They are Aitkin, Benton, Carlton, Cass, Chisago, Crow Wing, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd, Wright, and Wadena.
The programs include Michigan housing grants for affordable homeownership, affordable rental housing, rental housing rehab, and homebuyer education and counselling.
